In regression analysis, the scatter diagram is used to plot the independent variable on the X or horizontal axis, and the dependent variable on the Y or vertical axis. To produce a scatter diagram, highlight the X and Y data columns including the column titles. Then select the Chart Wizard on the Standard Toolbar, then from the Chat menu select , then XY Scatter, (in Excel 2007, select Input from the menu tab, then Scatter from the Chart option), then respond to the dialog screen questions.
